IELTS Practice: Work

Hello, my dear student!

Congratulations! You have finished the lessons of Module 2. Now it is time to use everything together, as in the real exam.

This lesson has no new grammar. Each part is one section of the IELTS test about work and careers: two Listening sections, two Reading passages, Writing Task 1 and Task 2, and Speaking. Use the methods you learned: wait for the final answer in multiple choice, match information to paragraphs, write an overview without numbers, describe trends accurately, and keep talking for the full two minutes in Part 2.

Work as if it were the real test: read the instructions carefully and check every answer once. Each part has a time limit and the clock does not stop; you get one try for each question. At the end you see an estimated band for each skill: a rough guide from a few questions, not an official score.

Before you start

A quick reminder of the method for each section.

Listening multiple choice: which answer do you choose?
The final one. Words like but, actually, in the end and instead often come before it.
Reading, matching information: can you use a paragraph twice?
Yes, if the instructions say so. Match the idea, not the word.
Writing Task 1: what goes in the overview?
Overall + the two main trends, without numbers.
rose to 60 or rose by 60?
to = the new number; by = the difference.
Speaking Part 2: what do you do in the one minute?
Key-word notes for each point, with a reason or an example.

Now it’s your turn!

8 short parts, each a little harder than the one before. Take your time: mistakes are how we learn.
