Review: Me and My World

Hello, my dear student!

Hello, my dear student!

You have finished Module 1. Now you can talk about yourself and the people in your life, ask and answer questions, say whose things are whose, answer the first questions of the IELTS Speaking test, write down names and addresses in Listening, and write a paragraph about yourself.

This lesson is a review. Read the short guide first, then do the exercises. Each part checks one or two lessons, and the Final Boss checks everything.

If a part feels hard, go back to that lesson and write the mistake in your mistake notebook. Then Module 2 will feel much easier.

Module 1 in eight ideas

Lesson 1

Be: am, is, are

I am; he, she, it is; you, we, they are. English always needs a verb. In questions, be comes first, and a short answer has no short form at the end: Yes, she is.

  • My parents are teachers.(Ota-onam oʻqituvchi.)
  • Is she ready? Yes, she is.(U tayyormi? Ha, tayyor.)

Lesson 2

Present simple and -s

He, she, it + -s: works. After s, sh, ch, x and o: -es (watches, goes). A consonant + y: -ies (studies). Negatives: don’t or doesn’t + the verb with no -s.

  • She studies at university.(U universitetda oʻqiydi.)
  • He doesn’t like coffee.(U qahvani yoqtirmaydi.)

Lesson 3

Questions

With be: Are you…? Is he…? With other verbs: Do you…? Does she…? After a question word, the order stays the same: question word + do or does + subject + verb.

  • Where do you live?(Qayerda yashaysiz?)
  • What does your father do?(Otangiz nima ish qiladi?)

Lesson 4

My or mine?

My, your, his, her, our and their go before a noun. Mine, yours, his, hers, ours and theirs stand alone. Whose asks about the owner, and ’s shows the owner: Aziz’s phone.

  • This is my bag. It’s mine.(Bu mening sumkam. U meniki.)
  • Whose phone is this? It’s Lola’s.(Bu kimning telefoni? Lolaniki.)

Lesson 5

People in my life

Family words: aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, relatives. Useful verbs: get on well with (be friends), look like (have the same face), take after (be like an older relative), keep in touch with (talk often from far away).

  • I get on well with my brother.(Akam bilan yaxshi chiqishaman.)
  • I take after my father.(Men otamga tortganman.)

Lesson 6

IELTS Speaking Part 1

Never answer with one word. Give an answer, a reason and a detail: two or three sentences about your work, your studies or your hometown.

  • I’m a student. I study economics because I like numbers.(Men talabaman. Iqtisodiyotni oʻrganaman, chunki raqamlarni yaxshi koʻraman.)

Lesson 7

Spelling in Listening

Write names, streets and postcodes letter by letter. Two same letters: double. In phone numbers, 0 is often “oh”. One spelling mistake makes the answer wrong.

  • Smith: S, M, I, T, H.(Smith: S, M, I, T, H.)
  • My postcode is CB2 1TN.(Mening pochta indeksim CB2 1TN.)

Lesson 8

A paragraph about me

A topic sentence, then details, then a closing sentence. Capital letters, a subject and a verb in every sentence, and linking words: and, but, because, so, also.

  • In my free time, I play chess.(Boʻsh vaqtimda shaxmat oʻynayman.)
  • I love animals, so I want to be a vet.(Men hayvonlarni yaxshi koʻraman, shuning uchun veterinar boʻlishni xohlayman.)

Remember!

If an idea is not clear, open that lesson again: every lesson stays open.
